Pennsylvania Bus Association awards 2025 scholarships at annual conference

The Pennsylvania Bus Association (PBA) announced the recipients of its 2025 Annual Scholarship Awards during the organization’s annual conference in Glen Allen, Virginia.

This year’s winners are Katie Kimmel, sponsored by Wolf’s Bus Lines, and Karina Kunkel, sponsored by Anderson Coach & Travel. Each recipient received a $1,000 scholarship and a commemorative plaque.

The scholarship program, launched in 2023 under the leadership of PBA Chair Tammy Wolf-Baker, aims to support the higher education goals of employees and families affiliated with PBA operator members.

Eligible applicants include employees of member companies or their dependent children.

Applicants must have at least one year of employment with the member company by Jan. 1 of the award year and be enrolled full-time in a college, trade, or professional school with a minimum GPA of 3.0 or equivalent.

Wolf-Baker, who presented the awards at the conference, thanked the PBA Executive Committee for reviewing the applications. “The scholarship program is a meaningful way to invest in the future of our industry’s families,” she said.

Kimmel, who plans to become a veterinarian, shared her passion for animal care. “I want to help improve their health by diagnosing and treating illnesses,” she said. “Once I become a veterinarian, I hope to specialize in small and large animal care, and maybe venture into exotic animal care.”

Kunkel, who is studying nursing, plans to begin her career in a local hospital. “I believe it’s important to start in a hospital setting where I can gain hands-on experience, build confidence, and truly understand what it’s like to work in high-pressure environments such as the emergency room and trauma units,” she said.
