WASHINGTON — The National Park Service has updated the list of parks requiring commercial use authorizations for road-based commercial tours in 2027, adding 14 locations and removing seven.
The agency streamlined the permit process last year and clarified that tour operators are responsible for obtaining the permits. Bus operators need permits only if they also serve as tour operators.
Locations adding the permit requirement for 2027 include Glacier, Shenandoah, Black Canyon of the Gunnison, Colorado National Monument, Ebey’s Landing, Guadalupe Mountains, Hot Springs, Lassen Volcanic, Minute Man, Saguaro, San Antonio Missions, San Juan Islands, Steamtown and Virgin Islands.

Locations dropping the requirement for 2027 include Devils Postpile, Dinosaur, Harpers Ferry, Lake Mead, National Park of American Samoa, Organ Pipe Cactus and Vicksburg.
Many locations have not yet posted details or opened applications. The agency updates its commercial use authorization application website as parks finalize requirements and begin accepting applications. The full list for 2027 is available on the agency’s website.
Motorcoach operators should confirm that the tour operators booking their services have obtained the required permits to avoid problems upon arrival. Operators also should review requirements for each park they plan to visit, including parking instructions and road restrictions.
