John J. Shoup, 89, owner-operator of Cardinal Buses in Indiana and a former board member of the United Motorcoach Association, passed away on September 7 in Elkhart following injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Mr. Shoup was the second generation in his family to operate Cardinal Buses, which was founded in 1923. He also was a past president of Air Ground Transportation and the O’Hare Intercity Bus Association of which he was a founding member.
He served as president and board member of the Middlebury Town Council and was active in many civic organizations, including service as commissioner of the Elkhart County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 70 years, Margaret Ann Schrock Shoup; a daughter, Rebecca Schowe; two sons (and the current operators of Cardinal Buses), Dan and Matt Shoup; nine grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
