Irizar is one of the largest investors in a solar photovoltaic energy farm in the Basque Country of Spain. “The energy generated in this farm will supply Irizar e-mobility facilities, making it the first factory for the production of electric buses with zero-emissions clean energy in Europe,” the company announced.
The e-mobility plant was designed according to eco-sustainability concepts and holds a Type A energy certificate, the maximum rating available in Europe. It includes a warehouse and water-heating facility that uses surplus steam from an adjoining company.
Irizar also has presented “Europe’s first autonomous electric bus” to the city of Malaga. The 60-passenger bus will travel between the city port and the city center, operating in manual or automatic mode. In the autonomous mode it will be monitored by a supervisor in a control center. The project received funding from the Centre for Industrial Technological Development of Spain’s Ministry of Economy.
