Ian Macpherson promoted to VP of engineering services for MCI, New Flyer

Ian Macpherson has been promoted to Vice President for Engineering Services for NFI Group Inc.’s North American Bus and Coach (NABC) division, which encompasses New Flyer, MCI, and other internal fabrication businesses, the transportation giant recently announced.

Macpherson will be based out of the New Flyer manufacturing facility in Anniston, Alabama, and will be a member of the NABC Executive Leadership team reporting directly to Chris Stoddart, President of North American Bus and Coach.

Macpherson will be responsible for leading all aspects of product engineering for New Flyer and MCI, including new product development, testing and validation, production engineering and electrical control systems. He also will oversee the installation and commissioning of electric vehicle charging equipment provided by NFI Infrastructure Solutions.

Extensive background

Macpherson earned his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with honors from the University of Canterbury in Christchurch, New Zealand, and brings over 15 years of engineering experience to his new role. 

He previously worked for North American Bus Industries (NABI), which was acquired by New Flyer in 2013. 

Prior to joining NABI, Macpherson was Director of Engineering for DesignLine USA. During his career at NFI, Ian has held various leadership positions within the engineering team, including Systems Integration Manager, Chief Engineer of Design, Chief Engineer of Product Improvement, and Director of Production Engineering.

NFI manufactures zero-emission buses and coaches, infrastructure, and technology, with a workforce of 8,500 people across 10 countries. Its products include New Flyer heavy-duty transit buses, MCI motorcoaches, Alexander Dennis Limited single and double-deck buses, Plaxton motorcoaches, ARBOC low-floor cutaway and medium-duty buses, and NFI Parts. 

NFI offers a wide range of sustainable drive systems, including zero-emission electric (rolley, battery, and fuel cell), natural gas, electric hybrid, and clean diesel.
