Driver competition candidates gear up for UMA finals at EXPO

It all starts with being a safe driver, having exceptional skills and knowledge of the regulations, and the desire to put those skills and knowledge up against some of the top motorcoach drivers in North America.

Brian Bass, the reigning champion of this year’s Midwest Bus & Motorcoach Association Rodeo, is already registered and will be competing this year in San Antonio, TX.

“We encourage operating companies and state and regional associations to send their champions to the international competition,” said Ken Presley, vice president of industry relations and chief operating officer. “We saw some outstanding drivers last year and anticipate that will continue in San Antonio, TX.”

The UMA Board of Directors sought to elevate the motorcoach driver profession through highlighting those drivers that possess exceptional skills and knowledge. Qualifying drivers will submit an application and supporting information. After review, the driver will be notified of the eligibility. Qualifying drivers automatically meet the qualifications for the “Excellence in Driving Award.” Last year, four drivers qualified for the Master Driver Designation. Hotel, meals, and registration expenses are complimentary.

All drivers will be recognized for their achievements at the UMA Leadership Awards Celebration the Nation’s premier event recognizing industry leaders and their achievements, to be held during the 2018 UMA Motorcoach EXPO. Sponsors for the 2018 UMA International Motorcoach Driver Competition include Prevost, Crum & Forster Insurance, and Shriver-Capacity Insurance.
