Rego succeeds Rafael Sterling, who left for the position of Chief Commercial Officer at Spanish train builder Talgo.

He will take over the position on Sept. 26 to drive the group forward and tackle the new challenges of the future of mobility, the company said in a statement announcing his new position.

Rego comes to the role with international experience in several high-responsibility positions, from supply chain management to global business. He previously served as CEO of Irizar e-mobility.

Focus on innovation, sustainability

As the General Director, Rego says he’ll focus on continuing to develop and innovate with sustainable technology and transport solutions for all clients and passengers.

“The world is facing a climate and energy challenge,” Rego said in a statement. “And the Irizar Group provides a wide range of transport solutions that span electromobility and other energy sources, always with the goal of responding to the efficiency and sustainability challenges the world of today presents us with. The transport of the future is already here, and we want our clients and passengers to keep enjoying the group’s innovations and technology.”

In unanimous representation of the Governing Council, the President of Irizar S. Coop, Koldo Mendizabal, said he had complete confidence in Rego, who, as a “leader of a technologically advanced organization, will drive solid and sustainable growth, reflect its team values, maintain commitments to clients and, first and foremost, stimulate the maximum operating efficiency of the Irizar brand.”

Irizar Group is a Spanish-based manufacturer of luxury buses and coaches. Established in 1889, the company is located in Ormaiztegi, in the Basque Country of Spain, and has a commercial presence in over 90 countries, including the United States.
