MTRWESTERN revamps Dungeness Line with new fleet, express service

PORT ANGELES, Wash.  — The Dungeness Line, a key bus connection linking the Olympic Peninsula with Sea-Tac International Airport, is getting a major upgrade as MTRWESTERN takes over operations on Nov. 1.

The Seattle-based transportation company is rolling out new buses, adding bike racks, and introducing an express schedule in an effort to improve reliability and passenger comfort. The Dungeness Line, part of the Washington State Department of Transportation’s Travel Washington network, serves Port Angeles, Sequim, Discovery Bay, Port Townsend, Kingston, Edmonds, downtown Seattle, and Sea-Tac.

“We’re proud to bring a local touch to a route that’s so important to the Olympic Peninsula,” said MTRWESTERN President Jeremy Butzlaff. “From new equipment to thoughtful scheduling, everything we’ve done is designed to improve the daily rider experience.”

The company says passengers can expect modernized vehicles, locally based drivers, and improved operations focused on consistency and safety. A new Port Angeles–Sea-Tac Airport express option will depart Port Angeles at 8:20 a.m. and arrive at Sea-Tac at 12:25 p.m., with a return trip departing at 1:45 p.m. and arriving back at 5:15 p.m.

“The Dungeness Line is a critical connection for rural and coastal communities, providing access to jobs, education, medical care, and transportation hubs,” said Nina Stocker, program manager for WSDOT’s Travel Washington Intercity Bus Lines. “We’re excited to partner with MTRWESTERN to build on that legacy with improved reliability and a locally rooted approach to customer care.”

Future upgrades include a bus-tracking feature launching in January 2026 and enhanced onboard safety systems powered by AI technology. The Dungeness Line will continue to support interline ticketing with Greyhound, Amtrak, and FlixBus.
