NEW YORK — The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will take delivery of its 1,000th motorcoach from Prevost in 2026, marking a major milestone in a long-standing partnership between the nation’s largest public transportation system and the North American bus manufacturer.
The delivery underscores what company and government officials described as a deepening relationship built on reliability, large-scale procurement, and cross-border economic ties. Prevost, a subsidiary of the Volvo Group, said the milestone reflects decades of collaboration with New York City Transit and its parent agency.

“This is a historic milestone for us. Just imagine — 1,000 Prevost coaches on the road every day, serving the citizens of New York City and its suburbs,” said François Tremblay, president of Prevost and Volvo Group Canada. “Over time, we have developed a genuine relationship of trust with the MTA, and we are very proud of that.”
Transit officials said the new coaches are part of ongoing efforts to modernize and maintain a system that serves more than 1 million daily bus riders. Demetrius Crichlow, president of New York City Transit, said dependable equipment remains central to the agency’s operations.
“Modern, dependable, and safe buses are how New York City Transit delivers for over 1 million daily bus riders in New York City,” Crichlow said. “We look forward to continuing to upgrade our fleet with high-quality buses to ensure we are providing safe and efficient service for the New Yorkers who rely on our bus network to get them where they need to go.”
Executives at Volvo Buses emphasized the role of sustainability in fleet development, as transit agencies face increasing pressure to reduce emissions.
“At Volvo Buses, sustainability is central to how we develop our vehicles and support operators in reducing emissions across their fleets,” said Anna Westerberg, president of Volvo Buses.
Cross-border effort
The milestone also drew attention from Canadian and Quebec officials, who highlighted the economic and industrial significance of the partnership. The coaches are manufactured in Sainte-Claire, Quebec.
“Through cross-border partnerships, integrated supply chains, and world-class manufacturing, companies like Prevost create good jobs and drive growth on both sides of the Canada-U.S. border,” said Dominic LeBlanc, Canada’s minister responsible for U.S. trade and intergovernmental affairs. “Our economies are strongest when we work together — building, innovating, and trading in ways that support workers, strengthen our industries, and reinforce a resilient North American economy.”
Quebec officials echoed those remarks, pointing to the company’s role in advancing engineering and sustainable mobility.
“Prevost’s success in New York is a testament to the excellence of Québec engineering and the strength of our ties with one of our most important partners,” said Christopher Skeete, Quebec’s minister of international relations. “Such a relationship is based on mutual trust and shared ambition. The Government of Québec is proud to see Prevost rise to the challenge on the world stage.”
“Reaching the milestone of 1,000 coaches delivered to New York is a clear demonstration of Québec’s manufacturing expertise and the strength of our economic ties with the United States,” added Jean Boulet, Quebec’s minister of economy, innovation, and energy.
Prevost has been a key supplier to the MTA in recent years. In December 2023, the company announced the largest contract in its history — an order from the transit authority for 381 coaches, including a firm order for 250 vehicles scheduled for delivery between 2025 and 2026.
The company said the orders reflect confidence in its products and long-term service network, which includes company-owned service centers, mobile repair units, and customer support teams across North America.
Founded more than a century ago, Prevost produces intercity touring coaches and high-end specialty vehicles, and operates as part of the Volvo Group, which manufactures buses, trucks, and industrial equipment worldwide.
