Flight attendants awarded $77 million in wage case

More than 1,000 flight attendants will share in a $77 million judgment against their employer in a case involving violations of California’s wage and hour laws.

The lawsuit, filed in 2015, alleged that Virgin Airlines did not pay its flight attendants for all time spent before, after, and between flights doing works or training, did not allow a class of flight attendants to take meal or rest breaks, and failed to pay overtime and minimum wages. This decision highlights the importance of compliance with not only federal wage and hour laws, but with the various state wage and hour laws in which employers operate, experts say.
