YouTuber James Wang captures the fun at his 1st UMA EXPO

Bus & Motorcoach News invited industry YouTuber James Wang to join the team in telling the stories of the UMA EXPO. He didn’t disappoint in his two-part video and his Facebook Live videos, even though his wonky GoPro didn’t record the sound on some of his interviews.

Wang, co-owner and director of operations of Peoria Charter Coach, brought along company Vice President Dennis Utley, who served as his camera operator. Wang made time to enjoy the experience, despite getting off to a rough start — being delayed in Dallas for 10 hours, causing him to miss EXPO’s poolside welcome reception.

It was Wang’s first United Motorcoach Association event appearance, and he was surprised by the kind reception. He heard from a few operators that his videos about the life of a motorcoach driver are so good that they share them with new drivers to give the recruits a flavor of the motorcoach industry.

Wang’s most memorable fan during EXPO, Jerry Moore from Village Travel in Wichita, Kansas, wore socks with Wang’s face on them. (A gift from his thoughtful wife.)

Taco truck cuisine

Check out Wang’s first video about his flight and arrival at the EXPO, which ran Feb. 23-26 in Long Beach, California. He connected with Richard DeYoung, a longtime Motor Coach Industries (MCI) salesman who is retiring this year, over taco truck cuisine near his hotel.

“It’s my first taste of California. I think I’m going to like it,” said Wang, who ordered five lengua (cow’s tongue) tacos and a bacon-wrapped hot dog topped with relish, grilled onions and jalapenos.

His second video shows him connecting with the Peoria Charter team and checking out just how long Long Beach is, as well as the ribbon-cutting of the EXPO exhibit floor, which featured 23 coaches and buses. He also connected with Kevin Creighton, the voice of “Motorcoach Minute,” and Shandra Martinez, editor of Bus & Motorcoach News.

Facebook Live videos

Wang did three Facebook Live videos, capturing the press conference for the new Mercedes Benz Tourrider, the unveiling of the new Temsa TS45 and TS45E, and a sneak preview of the showroom floor.

It was announced at EXPO that Wang, whose Peoria Charters is a UMA Member, will be joining Bus & Motorcoach News as a contributor, highlighting his vlog content on two YouTube channels, J Wang and Motorcoach World
