Union wants to extend benefits

Minnesota lawmakers are feeling the pressure from the Teamster Union to pass H.F. 988.

The legislation would allow part-time school bus drivers to draw unemployment during the summer, even if they are promised a job in the fall.  The Minnesota School Bus Operators Association is opposing the bill and the Senate companion bill, S. 1318, because the regulation will add to operators’ costs.

Minnesota is one of only a handful of states that doesn’t extend unemployment insurance to part-time workers during the summer months, the union said in a press release.
