The newly launched Mercedes-Benz Tourrider is picking up accolades. The motorcoach produced by Daimler Buses received the Innovation Award from the German publication busplaner.
The Tourrider received the Innovation Award for its overall package of design, comfort, technology and safety, based on the votes of readers.
Daimler Buses developed the Mercedes-Benz Tourrider for the North American market based on feedback from bus operators across the United States and Canada.

Unique features
The coach comes with a 360-degree camera system designed to offer all-around visibility when maneuvering in tight spaces.
The Tourrider is also the first touring coach to feature the unique emergency braking assistance system Active Brake Assist 5 — ABA 5 for short — with pedestrian detection as standard equipment. It’s the world’s first emergency braking assistant for buses and coaches to be able to carry out automated maximum full-stop braking for stationary and moving obstacles, and now also for pedestrians.
Another innovation of the vehicle is its Top Sky Panorama glass roof — which is optional on the Tourrider Premium — for sky views and optional ambient lighting in the passenger compartment. The driver can set different colors and select the light intensity to create an individual lighting mood that suits the occasion and the passengers.
North American specifics
Other features for the North American market include a single passenger door at the front, a level floor and a passenger compartment layout with evenly distributed double seats and a toilet room, at ground level at the rear right in the direction of travel, in the last row of seats.
The safety bumpers and the split windscreen, as well as the standard low arrangement of the exterior mirrors with flat lenses, also meet the market’s regulations.
The drive system features an in-line six-cylinder Mercedes-Benz OM 471. With a displacement of 12.8 liters, the engine delivers 336 kW (456 hp) and a maximum torque of 2,300 Nm. Power is transferred by an Allison automatic transmission with a torque converter.
The Tourrider is available as a three-axle touring coach with a vehicle length of 45 feet (13.72 meters) in two model variants — Tourrider Business and Tourrider Premium. In addition to design and equipment features, they differ in height — 12.1 feet (3.69 meters) for the Tourrider Business, and 12.3 feet (3.75 meters) for the Premium. An additional benefit is headroom in the passenger compartment.
