Veteran Greyhound bus operator Crawford Lassiter has received the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s 2025 International Driver Excellence Award, becoming the first intercity bus driver to earn the honor since its creation in 2015.
The award, previously given only to trucking industry drivers, recognizes commercial operators who demonstrate exceptional commitment to public safety and leadership on the road. Lassiter, who began driving in 1979, has logged more than 2.5 million accident-free miles and mentors new Greyhound drivers nationwide.

“Throughout my 45 years as a driver, my priorities have always been the same: show up on time with a good attitude, treat people with kindness and respect, and get every passenger where they need to go safely,” Lassiter said. “To be recognized like this after all these years means a lot, and I hope it shines a light on all the other Greyhound bus drivers across the country.”
Lassiter was honored earlier this year with the Pennsylvania Bus Association’s 2024 Driver of Distinction award.
Greyhound Chief Operations Officer Rodney Surber called the win a milestone for the company and the intercity bus industry. “Being the first bus company to receive this prestigious award validates the progress we’ve made as a transformed brand and underscores our ongoing mission to lead the industry into a safe and innovative future,” he said.
Greyhound, part of Flix North America, operates the largest intercity bus network in North America, serving more than 1,600 destinations in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The award will be presented later this year in Denver.
