Greyhound Canada drops most routes

Don’t plan on spending Halloween on a Greyhound Bus in Canada. Starting Oct. 31, Greyhound Canada will drastically downsize, discontinuing all passenger and freight services in the provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Only the Vancouver to Seattle Route will continue in British Columbia, and only routes in Ontario and Quebec will remain unchanged.

The company cited several reasons for its decision. Those include: declining ridership in rural communities, increased competition from subsidized national and inter-regional transportation services, the entry of new very low cost carriers, regulatory constraints and increased car travel. Since 2010, ridership dropped nearly 41 percent across the country.
