FMCSA extends waiver for CDL and CLP holders

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has extended a waiver for commercial driver’s license (CDL) and commercial learner’s permit (CLP) holders whose licenses or medical cards expired after March 1, 2020.

The waiver extension to September 30, 2020 is a result of the ongoing COVID-19 emergency. Originally, the first waiver was good through June 30, 2020.

A result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in many states state drivers licensing agencies are wither shut down completely or have experienced higher than normal employee absences; all combining to make CDL/CLP renewals difficult.

Additionally, many medical care providers have canceled regular appointments due to the COVID-19 crisis, making it near impossible for drivers of commercial motor vehicles to obtain the necessary physical exam to obtain their medical certificate.

All CLP and CDL drivers are required to comply with all other applicable obligations under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and other applicable laws.
