Flix’s 7 years in U.S. marked by growth, innovation

As Americans increasingly turn to affordable travel options amid rising costs, Flix is marking seven years of operations in the United States, celebrating significant growth in ridership, network expansion, and modernization of intercity bus travel.

Flix, the global travel tech company behind FlixBus and Greyhound, has helped reshape long-distance ground transportation since entering the U.S. market in 2018. The company now facilitates travel for more than 12 million passengers annually, connecting over 1,600 destinations across the U.S., Mexico, and Canada — a 1,400% increase in stop locations since launch.

“Intercity bus travel is experiencing a renaissance, and we’re proud to lead the charge,” says Kai Boysan, CEO of Flix North America. “We’ve invested heavily in better buses, more efficient routes, and a more seamless digital experience — because today’s travelers expect more.”

Flix’s expansion has been driven by partnerships with more than 50 regional bus operators and a focus on affordability, digital innovation, and access. The company has logged nearly 300 million miles to date, linking major metropolitan areas with rural communities, universities, and tourist destinations, while helping riders stay connected to jobs, medical care, and family.

Greyhound acquisition

The 2021 acquisition of Greyhound, the largest legacy intercity bus provider in the U.S., was a major milestone. Greyhound and FlixBus now operate under Flix North America Inc., forming the largest intercity bus network in North America and accelerating fleet modernization and tech adoption across the system.

The company reports steady growth in ridership, including spikes during key travel periods like this spring’s Easter weekend. High-demand corridors in the Northeast, Midwest, and South continue to drive usage, with routes linking Boston to New York, Chicago to Minneapolis, and Dallas to Houston among the most popular.

So far in 2025, Flix has launched 11 new routes, with more planned throughout the year as it expands its footprint in the U.S. and Canada. The company is also advocating for greater recognition of buses as a critical part of the national transportation infrastructure, emphasizing their role in providing sustainable, equitable, and cost-effective mobility.

“Our mission has always been to make long-distance travel more accessible,” Boysan says. “We believe intercity buses should be considered a cornerstone of the mobility mix in North America.”

Founded in Germany, Flix operates bus and train services in over 40 countries.
