Democrats delay DNC Convention until August

Washington, DC – The Democratic National Committee announced yesterday they will delay their presidential nominating convention until the week of Aug. 17, hoping to increase the likelihood they can still hold an in-person gathering in Milwaukee.

The decision to reschedule from July puts the Democratic gathering one week before the Republican convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, currently scheduled to begin Aug. 24.

President Trump has commented “there was “no way” the Republican convention would be canceled.

“This is encouraging news,” commented Larry Killingsworth, president & CEO. “Both of these conventions could give much of the industry a boost at just the right time.”

Democratic officials point out that the August event would still be subject to the recommendations of federal and state health officials. Health and safety and state of the COVID-19 virus will likely dictate whether either event happen and a “virtual convention” remains a possibility.

The Democrat convention in Milwaukee convention would bring as many as 50,000 people from around the country and require around 500 buses.

“Let’s hope the coronavirus is in under control by then,” said Killingsworth. “It could signal the beginning of our nation’s recovery.”
