Century-old bus companies unite in regional expansion deal

Jefferson Lines has acquired Karst Stage, a transportation provider based in Bozeman, Montana, strengthening the intercity bus company’s reach across the Midwest and Mountain West.

The acquisition unites two of the nation’s oldest transportation companies, each with more than a century of service. Karst Stage will continue to operate under its existing brand but will gain access to Jefferson’s broader network and operational resources.

Karst Stage is Montana’s oldest transportation provider.

“For more than 122 years, Karst has built a stellar reputation in the Bozeman region,” said Steve Woelfel, CEO of Jefferson Lines. “This partnership is an exciting step forward, allowing us to expand opportunities, diversify our services, and elevate the travel experience for our passengers.”

The acquisition became effective in April.

Jefferson Lines, headquartered in Minneapolis, has operated intercity bus routes for over 100 years. The company is known for providing affordable and reliable transportation options throughout the Midwest.

Karst Stage, Montana’s oldest transportation provider, operates more than 80 vehicles and specializes in airport shuttles, tours, and local charter services within a 150-mile radius of Bozeman.
