Bus driver fined over death

A tour bus driver whose momentary inattention resulted in a fatal crash on Vancouver’s waterfront has been fined $1,800.

The tour bus jumped the curb at Canada Place in August 2017, striking and killing a 49-year-old Massachusetts doctor. Patrick Gerard Campbell pled guilty to driving without due care and attention in the crash that injured three others.

Campbell, a former truck driver, had stopped his bus and was boarding passengers when he noticed an issue with the door. While he was apparently focused on fixing the issue, the vehicle rolled about 45 feet, hitting a rental vehicle as two families were getting inside, reported the Vancouver Sun.
