Asian American Motorcoach Association gets regulations update—and much more

UNCASVILLE, Conn.—The Asian American Motorcoach Association (AAMA) met in late July at Connecticut’s Mohegan Sun resort for a meeting that featured information on industry regulations, how members can get involved in the legislative process and more.

UMA’s Vice President of Legislative and Regulatory Affairs and Industry Relations/COO, Ken Presley, gave a presentation on “How Government Works.” He explained the legislative and regulatory process in a session focused on the opportunities and rationale in becoming involved in the process.

Chris Liang, Business Development Manager, UBT, provided an overview of the company’s innovative technologies for motorcoach passenger experience as well as management and compliance tools. Presenters Godfrey LeBron, Chief Administrative Officer, AAMA, and UMA’s Presley shared an in-depth look at “Interstate Passenger Carrier Hours of Service” and best management practices.

The group boarded a motorcoach for a short trip to Cranston, R.I., for “Lunch & Learn” sessions, courtesy of Flagship Trailway’s facilities. The group had an opportunity to tour the facilities and view the company’s antique bus collection. After lunch, the group was introduced to “Maintenance 101,” focusing on the differences between a “maintenance” and “repair” shop.

In other sessions, the group learned about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s role in monitoring passenger carrier compliance and safety including vehicle/driver inspections, crash rates, CSA/SMS, compliance reviews and the rating process. There was also an up-close opportunity to view what drivers incur in the field during a Level 1 Inspection.

“These sessions provide the kind of invaluable information you can only receive by attending this type of event”, said David Wang, President of AAMA and owner of Eastern Bus, “We are exceptionally pleased with our attendance and presenters – an outstanding meeting.”

AAMA also announced that its first annual conference will be held in Atlantic City, N.J., at the Resorts Casino, Oct. 28-30. For more: asianamericanma.org.
