Academy Bus is expanding its fleet by purchasing 10 new ENC Axess clean diesel buses, set to begin service in the Boston area next summer.
The 40-foot transit buses will be manufactured by ElDorado National California Inc. (ENC), a Riverside-based subsidiary of Rivaz Inc. that recently resumed production after a pause in late 2024. The order is a continuation of Academy’s partnership with ENC, which began in 2015.

“Transit buses offer us greater flexibility, reliability, and performance for the high-frequency, high-volume routes we serve,” said Francis Tedesco, president and CEO of Academy Bus. “This order reflects our continued focus on fleet modernization and operational efficiency.”
Academy Bus is the largest privately owned ground transportation company in the U.S., operating more than 1,000 vehicles across 20 locations from Boston to Miami. The Hoboken, New Jersey-based company provides commuter, charter, intercity, and shuttle services and drives over 20 million miles annually.

ENC’s Axess buses boast stainless-steel construction, durability, and corrosion resistance. The models are fully accessible, ADA-compliant, and Altoona-tested, with propulsion systems available in clean diesel, compressed natural gas, hybrid, and battery-electric.
The order is one of the first major announcements since ENC resumed bus production at its California facility. Backed by Rivaz Inc., a green-energy transportation firm, ENC is now fully operational and accepting new orders across its Axess lineup.

“Academy Bus is a longstanding leader in American transportation, and we’re proud to support their continued growth with dependable, Buy America-compliant buses,” said Dan Trujillo, ENC’s vice president of sales and marketing.
Founded in 1975, ENC manufactures heavy-duty transit vehicles at its Riverside facility and is an approved Transit Vehicle Manufacturer under the Federal Transit Administration. The company’s products meet Buy America standards.
