U.S. Coachways on Staten Island sued for discrimination

U.S. Coachways on Staten Island is being sued for unlawful discrimination based on race, gender, disability, pregnancy and other factors by 10 former employees, who are Black and female. They are seeking at least $20 million in damages and unpaid wages.

The allegations were outlined in a lawsuit filed in federal court in New York against U.S. Coachways Inc. and its affiliates, American Tour & Travel Inc., Subout.com LLC and Ultra Express Coach Inc. Also listed as defendants are executives Mark and Edward Telmany, who are brothers, and Nicholas Cianciaruso, according to a report by the Staten Island Advance. 

“U.S. Coachways has mercenary-style tactics that are used to infringe upon the rights of their employees. They lie about their employees, they’re greedy, they’re ruthless, they don’t play by the rules,” Bennitta L. Joseph, an attorney for the law firm of Joseph & Norinsberg LLC, which is representing the plaintiffs, told the publication.

A lawyer representing U.S. Coachways and its affiliates called the allegations “meritless.”

“Defendants’ deny plaintiffs’ meritless claims and look forward to vigorously defending themselves,” said a statement from Daniel Gomez-Sanchez, an attorney for Littler Mendelson P.C.

U.S. Coachways is generally considered a broker, that contracts with bus and motorcoach operators across the country to provide charter service to their customers.
