DES PLAINES, Ill. — Motor Coach Industries Technical Solutions Manager Joel Aguirre has completed the MCI Academy Master Technician program, earning certification in all aspects of MCI motorcoach systems and support.
Aguirre, who has been with MCI since 2008 and supports customers throughout North America, said the program enhanced his ability to help operators maintain and troubleshoot their fleets.
“I have a genuine passion for learning and expanding my knowledge,” Aguirre said. “This program not only strengthened my own skills but also allows me to better support our customers.”
The certification reflects MCI’s ongoing investment in technical training and workforce development. As a technical solutions manager, Aguirre provides aftermarket technical support across the company’s product line, including legacy and obsolete models, helping operators maximize fleet uptime and performance.
The Master Technician program combines hands-on training in Louisville, Kentucky, with online coursework covering maintenance, electrical systems, HVAC, and other motorcoach systems. The program typically takes several years to complete.
According to MCI, Aguirre completed the program in less than three years, finishing 11 instructor-led courses, including Tech 2 and Tech 3 certifications, HVAC training, and electrical coursework. He also completed more than 130 self-paced online courses across a range of technical disciplines.
Aguirre said one of the most challenging aspects of the program was mastering the wide range of systems and configurations found throughout MCI’s product lineup.
“The numerous variations in the product line make it challenging to keep everything organized,” Aguirre said. “But having access to strong reference materials and the support of the training team made a significant difference in building my understanding.”
MCI said Aguirre continues to participate in advanced training as new technologies and products are introduced.
MCI Academy provides online and hands-on instruction for technicians responsible for maintaining and repairing motorcoaches throughout North America.
