Mayo Tours sees outpouring of industry support after fire

When Mayo Tours experienced a devastating fire that destroyed its shop and the two coaches inside, the motorcoach industry was quick to offer support.

“We have suffered a loss, but as always Mayo Tours is uplifted by the many prayers going up for us & holding strong,” Mayo Tours shared in an Aug. 1 Facebook post.

A fire destroyed Mayo Tours’ shop and two coaches inside.

The cause of the blaze may be an office window air conditioning unit, but an investigation is ongoing.

Rachel Mayo Holmes shared that her faith is helping the business in West Monroe, Louisiana, deal with the aftermath of the devastating middle-of-the-night fire.

“‘In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.’ I am thankful no one was in there. I am thankful it didn’t get the front office. I am thankful only 2 buses (were) in the shop! God is good,” Holmes wrote in an Aug. 1 Facebook post.

Offers of support, assistance

Mayo Tours received an outpouring of support on Facebook from motorcoach operators across the country, including the following:

Clint Guth (Chelax Industries): We have known the Mayo family for 25 years. These are great people with a lot of pride who work very diligently every day. The industry should rally to offer as much help as possible as this will be a challenge in this chapter for the Mayo family. With that — they will overcome with our prayers & assistance. Rachel — Scott — Preston & family — tell us what we can do to help you rise up & overcome this burden. … I’ve done business with your family on a handshake & I’m offering a hand right now, and so will many others. Tell me what you need to happen. This industry is going to rally to help you! Get some rest. We are praying. Talk to you Tuesday.

Cardinal Transportation: We are so sorry to hear this. Know that we are here for you in anything we can help with. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Mayo family at this time.

Braden Lewis (Lewis Coaches): Wow, sorry. Praying for you all!

Connie Giddens (Pacific Coachways): My worst fear. Hoping no one was injured, and praying for you during this difficult time.

Clarence Cox (Georgia Coach Lines): Sorry for your loss, and I pray that no one from your team was injured. Prayers for a full recovery.

Jack Kaufman (Timi’s Tours): So sorry for your loss. If there’s any assistance we’re able to provide, let me know.

Eddie Serrano (Empire Coach Line): Tragic loss. Prayers for you and your family.

Christian Riddell (The Bus Network): Oh my goodness! Praying for you and a speedy recovery. We are here if there is anything we can do to help!
