Greyhound launches ‘America 250’ buses celebrating nationwide travel and connectivity

PHILADELPHIA — Greyhound has unveiled its “America 250 Fleet,” four commemorative buses that mark the nation’s 250th anniversary and highlight the role of intercity travel in connecting communities across the United States.

The fleet, operated by Greyhound parent company Flix North America, features buses wrapped in a “From Sea to Shining Sea” design inspired by American landscapes, including coastal scenes and open highways. The company said the designs are intended to celebrate travel, exploration and opportunity ahead of nationwide America 250 celebrations.

Greyhound unveiled four commemorative buses as part of its “America 250 Fleet,” celebrating the nation’s 250th anniversary and the role of intercity travel in connecting U.S. communities.

“From our national parks to historic cities to the communities that connect us, America is meant to be experienced up close,” said Kai Boysan, CEO of Flix North America. “With the America 250 Fleet, we invite travelers to explore the country in a way that is accessible, affordable, and most meaningful to them.”

Each bus will operate in a different region of the country. Routes include trips between Philadelphia and Washington in the Northeast; Chicago and Detroit in the Midwest; Dallas and Atlanta in the South; and Los Angeles and San Diego in the West.

First route is running

The first bus entered service Thursday on the Philadelphia-to-Washington route, which the company described as symbolic because of the cities’ historical significance. The remaining buses are scheduled to begin service in June.

Greyhound said passengers on the inaugural America 250 Fleet departures from each of the four launch cities will receive a $25 voucher for future travel.

The company said the initiative is also intended to spotlight the importance of intercity bus transportation, particularly in rural areas where bus service may be one of the few available travel options. Greyhound said the fleet is aimed at helping more Americans participate in anniversary events planned across the country.

“For more than 100 years, Greyhound has helped Americans get where they need to go, whether that is to opportunity, to family, to education, to military service, or to new beginnings,” Boysan said. “Travel should not be a barrier to participation; it should be what connects people to it.”
