Federal agency seeking comments on bus toll regulation

WASHINGTON – The Federal Highway Administration is accepting public comments through May 30 on a 2015 requirement that tolling authorities treat over-the-road buses the same as they do public-transit buses.

The Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act passed by Congress in December 2015 modified federal requirements related to high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) facilities and the tolling of highways.

Among the changes was a requirement that tolling authorities charge OTRBs, including charter buses, the same fees as public-transit buses for using toll roads or waive the fees where applicable.

However, not all tolling authorities have implemented the change for OTRBs.
