Daimler forms independent distributorship for Setra

Daimler Buses announced in December that it is “restructuring” its motorcoach business in the U.S. and Canada.

A press released reported that Daimler and the REV Group “have agreed to move the sales and aftersales business into an independent business unit within the Daimler Group.”

In a letter to Setra customers on Jan. 10, the company explained, “Up to now, the REV Group has been majority shareholder of REV Coach LLC, which was responsible for the sales and servicing of Setra touring coaches in North America. In taking over the REV Group’s shares in REV Coach LLC, Daimler is demonstrating a clear commitment to the bus markets in the USA and Canada.

“Starting in January 2020, the new company Daimler Coaches North America will sell Setra Motor Coaches in the U.S. and Canada.”

The new company will operate a Daimler Coaches service shop in Fort Worth, Texas, the letter said. “The fully staffed facility provides comprehensive service and support for coaches, ensuring they remain in-service longer and get back on the road faster.”

Technical service also will be offered at Detroit Diesel’s authorized service locations “with factory-trained, certified technicians. These service centers are licensed for both Detroit Diesel engines and Allison transmissions. In areas with larger Setra fleet populations, select Detroit Diesel locations will be trained and qualified to provide full coach service and function as local suppliers for spare parts.”

REV Parts LLC will handle the parts business until the end of April, the letter said. Daimler Trucks North America will then provide coach customers “one of the most advanced distribution networks in North America.”
