The committee works together to provide advice and recommendations to the FMCSA administrator on motor carrier safety programs and regulations.

Recommended by the FMCSA administrator and appointed by the transportation secretary for two-year terms, MCSAC members are chosen from a field of candidates with a wide range of motor carrier experience and expertise. MCSAC comprises 25 experts from the motor carrier safety advocacy, safety enforcement, industry and labor sectors.

“I look forward to working with the committee in my new role,” Gildea said in a statement announcing her new role. “I will continue to bring my experience with the commercial motor vehicle law enforcement community, the motor carrier industry and transportation policy to the discussions of the committee as we work together to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses.”

Gildea represents CVSA, an organization of local, state, provincial, territorial and federal commercial motor vehicle safety officials and industry representatives. The Alliance aims to prevent commercial motor vehicle crashes, injuries and fatalities and believes that collaboration between government and industry improves road safety and saves lives. Its mission is to improve commercial motor vehicle safety and enforcement by providing guidance, education and advocacy for enforcement and industry across North America.

Gildea will serve two years as vice chair. Then she will succeed current MCSAC Chair Peter Kurdock, general counsel for Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety, as chair at the end of his two-year term.
