MMA adds familiar faces as board of directors grows

The Maryland Motorcoach Association is growing its board of directors to 14 members, with the addition of some familiar faces in the industry.

The three new board members are Marcia Milton, Marty Gunther and Jay Snead.

Al Spence, of AS Midway Tours and current President of MMA, said he “welcomes all of the new board members with enthusiasm and looks forward to working with them to expand MMA and supply additional benefits to our members.”

Long-standing UMA board member

Milton, formerly of First Priority Trailways and currently representing RMA Worldwide Chauffeured Transportation, is a long-standing board member of the United Motorcoach Association (UMA) and has always been active in MMA, Trailways, the National Association of Motorcoach Operators (NAMO) as a board member, and the American Bus Association (ABA).

She is a two-time winner of the UMA Industry Achievement Award.

“Marcia’s outlook on life and business brings a wealth of industry background to the board and is a welcome addition,” said MMA Executive Director Mary Presley. “Marcia’s motto is ‘Be prepared for the impossible.’ And always have a plan B is excellent advice on how to focus on the future, particularly after lessons learned through this current pandemic our industry now faces.”

Industry leader

Gunther is the owner of Gunther Charters. He and his wife, Laurie, started the Harmans, Maryland company in 1989 with five motorcoaches. Over the decades, they built their business on a foundation of customer service and reliable transportation. The company has grown to a fleet of 23 motorcoaches, becoming one of the premier motorcoach companies in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Gunther Charters is an industry leader in package tours, with a tour division that develops more than 200 group and retail tours per year.

The business “has always been a strong supporter of the Annual MMA Group Leader Travel Showcase,” said Presley. “With Marty’s knowledge of tour packaging and the industry, the MMA board knows we have a strong leader.”

Proven success

Snead is Prevost’s Regional Sales Manager for the Mid Atlantic and Southeast. He is known as an accomplished account executive with proven success in generating multimillion-dollar revenue gains, increasing market share and building high-performance sales teams that consistently achieve goals.

“Jay will undoubtedly assist MMA in driving growth and promoting a culture of excellence on the MMA Board,” Presley said. “Jay has proven to relentlessly pursue opportunities while building authentic client relationships with many MMA Operator Members and successfully penetrating new markets and expanding his territory.

“Beneficial to MMA will be Jay’s team-building strategies that will hopefully create a collaborative environment and improve overall performance by equipping our board members with the tools, training and motivation necessary for our further success.”
