A new survey shows motorcoach sales are up double digits over last year.
Sales of new motorcoaches climbed 15.1% compared to the same quarter last year, according to the third quarter 2024 Motorcoach Builders Survey.
The survey, conducted by the American Bus Association Foundation, collects data quarterly from leading manufacturers selling vehicles in the U.S. and Canada.
The data shows that participating manufacturers sold 389 new and 47 pre-owned motorcoaches, totaling 436 units.
While total sales dipped slightly from 442 units in Q3 2023, the rise in new coach sales offset a 54.8% decline in pre-owned vehicle sales. Purchases by both private and public sectors grew year over -year, increasing by 14.4% and 24%, respectively.
“The motorcoach, charter bus, and group travel industries continue to build momentum, highlighted by a 15% increase in new motorcoach sales over last year’s quarter,” Fred Ferguson, President and CEO of ABA and the ABA Foundation, said in an ABA release about the results.
“This growth underscores the critical role motorcoaches play in connecting people with places nationwide, whether for leisure, business, or travel. Looking ahead, our industry is dedicated to delivering safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation options.”
Despite the gains, sales remain 44.2% below prepandemic levels in 2019. Still, Q3 2024 figures align with trends observed over the past two years, reflecting the industry’s steady recovery.
