TORONTO -- Motor Coach Canada has developed a bus industry-specific driver logbook and daily vehicle inspection report that it is selling to coach operators.

Brian Crow, president and CEO of Motor Coach Canada, said the log and vehicle inspection report were developed from the ground up in response to member requests for a logbook and inspection report designed exclusively for the bus industry.

'In developing this product, we listened closely to what our members were telling us theyd like to see in a daily log,' said Dave Carroll, director of safety and maintenance for Motor Coach Canada. 'As a result, our log book incorporates several features that set (it) apart from other logbooks available from commercial sources.'

Among other things, the daily log and inspection report features:

Carbonless paper, eliminating the hassle of loose carbon paper

Large, easy-to-use format (8.5-by-7 inches)

Daily (trip) inspection schedules for buses (Schedules 2 & 3)

Single-side pages (no having to write on the back)

Perforation between hours of service portion and inspection portion (for ease of filing)

Recap page for both Canada and U.S. work cycles

Carriers name and address can be overprinted on each page (slight additional cost)

Carroll said the book meets Canadas new hours of service regulations, as well as Canadas new daily vehicle inspection regulations. (See June 1 and July 1 issues of Bus & Motorcoach News.)

Its also valid for travel in the U.S.

Crow said that St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co. (Travelers) was instrumental in developing the logbook/inspection report by providing 'generous support' to help offset the project cost.
