GO Riteway Transportation Group, based in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, announced that it has acquired Westlund Bus Lines, a transportation provider based in Marinette, Wisconsin. The acquisition includes 60 employees and 43 vehicles.
Westlund Bus Lines, which has served the Marinette School District and the broader Northeastern Wisconsin region for decades, provides school bus transportation, taxi services for the city of Marinette, and motor coach services.
“I’m happy to turn over the reins to GO Riteway,” said Tom Westlund, owner of Westlund Bus Lines. “We had choices of who to sell our business to, and we feel that GO Riteway is a family company that shares our values. I am confident that they are strong operators and will treat our customers and employees with the same care we have for the last 40 years.”
Wendy Bast, Co-Chair of GO Riteway, echoed Westlund’s sentiments.
“Our agreement with Westlund allows Tom to enjoy a well-earned retirement while continuing to provide his customers with safe, high-quality transportation services,” Bast said. “This acquisition also provides a key strategic location for the expansion of GO Riteway operations in northern Wisconsin. We plan to retain the employees and welcome them to the GO Riteway family with excellent career opportunities.”
Customers expect smooth transition
Local leaders expressed optimism about the acquisition. Sean Kelly, Finance Director for the Marinette School District, emphasized the benefits for the community.
“The transportation team supporting the Marinette School District will grow even stronger with GO Riteway acquiring Westlund Bus Lines. The district looks forward to the future with a continued focus on the safe transportation of our students.”
Marinette Mayor Steve Genisot also welcomed the change.
“The city of Marinette looks forward to working with GO Riteway,” said Genisot. “We’ve had a great business relationship with Tom Westlund, and we will work with GO Riteway for a smooth transition, keeping the city of Marinette shared-ride taxi program going while being supported by city, state, and federal funding. We wish Tom well as he steps closer to retirement.”
